CHURUBUSCO â€” A two-car collision in Whitley County Thursday afternoon claimed the life of a Mississippi woman and critically injured a Churubusco woman, according to police.
The crash occurred just before 5 p.m. on U.S. 33 west of Churubusco near County Road 700 North, police said.
According to the Whitley County Sheriffâ€™s Department, a vehicle driven by Ryan Harter, 33, of Fort Wayne, crossed the center stripe and struck a Jeep driven by Teresa Trainer, 49, of Waterford, Miss.
Trainer was pronounced dead at the scene.
Harterâ€™s van hit Trainerâ€™s vehicle head-on, police said, causing the Jeep to roll down an embankment, coming to rest on its top.
Trainer was pinned inside the vehicle, but a passenger, Alicia Newby, 35, of Churbusco, was ejected and suffered a head injury.
Newby was transported to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne where sheâ€™s listed in critical condition today.
Another passenger in Trainerâ€™s vehicle, Douglas Trainer, 52, of Waterford, Miss. complained of pain and was taken to Parkview, along with Harter, who complained of chest pain at the scene.
Douglas Trainer is listed in fair condition and no condition was given for Harter. Russell Trainer, 24, of Churubusco was listed as a passenger in the Jeep. Information on the nature of his injuries was unavailable.
Assisting the Whitley County Sheriffâ€™s Department at the scene were the Noble County Sheriffâ€™s Department, the Noble County Emergency Medical Service, the Churubusco Police Department and the Smith Township Fire Department.
Two medical airlift helicopters were called to the scene with two victims of the crash being transported by air.
Details of which victims were airlifted and which victims were taken by ambulance were not provided by police.
