COLUMBIA CITY â Decorating for Christmas took on a whole new meaning for some Whitley County families.
The 2nd Annual Lighthouse Christmas Walk took place Saturday and is a fundraiser for the transitional shelter.
âThis time of year is harder on us than others,â said Tania Keirn, director for The Lighthouse. âIf we had 10 people from every business, church and organization pledge just $10 per month, we would have what we need.â
According to Keirn, the shelter sees utility expenses in excess of $1,000 each month during the winter. That burden coupled with the increased to need for housing during colder months can mean a financial hardship for the nonprofit organization.
