Defensive play lifts Whitko to win

April 18, 2013

PERU — A relay play made the difference in a tight baseball game Wednesday night.

Whitko beat Peru, 4-3 on the road.

The Wildcats held the lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Tigers had a runner on first with two outs.

Peru batter Nolan Brimbury hit a double to right field that could have tied the game.

But the Whitko defense came through. The team executed what Coach Erik Hisner called a “perfect” relay, with right fielder Hunter Sroufe getting the ball to shortstop Ethan Nicodemus.
