DETAILS DIVULGED IN ALLEGED ATTACK: Victim taken to hospital bleeding profusely

July 1, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Details are unfolding about an attempted child rape case in Whitley County last week.

A Columbia City man has been charged with six felonies stemming from an alleged assault at Park Terrace Apartments early Friday morning.

The accused, Dustin Nemitz, 18, pleaded not guilty in court Monday.

In a probable cause hearing in Whitley County Circuit Court Friday, Columbia City Police Detective Chip Stephenson said officers were called at approximately 12:37 a.m. by a step-parent of a 13-year-old girl, stating she had been stabbed and possibly raped.

The victim was taken to Parkview Whitley Hospital with a three-quarter inch gash on her neck, that Stephenson said “bled profusely.”

Stephenson said in the hearing that the victim was allegedly stabbed while Nemitz forced her to perform a sex act.

“The victim said he held the weapon against her throat and demanded that she listen to him,” Stephenson said in the probable cause hearing. “He told her if she reported the crime to police, he would kill her and her family.”
