DNR digs into dredging project around Tri Lakes

August 2, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Creating cleaner lakes is the mission behind the Department of Natural Resources endeavor to dredge the channels throughout Tri Lakes.

Mark Weaver, an environmental contractor who lives on the channel at Karen Kove, was one of many residents who helped motivate the DNR to commit to clearing out the channels for boat passage.

“I knew what it would take to get this done — the right paper work and a lot of hours,” said Weaver.

“However, I thought the work was necessary. These channels are all but closed off now because of silt and vegetation.”

When the DNR begins its work, water from the channels will be pumped into a large disposal site, located on the property of Matt and Melissa Hile who live on Round Lake.
