CHURUBUSCO — Titles and dollars were painted as leverage by Clerk-Treasurer Madalyn Sade-Bartl when she made a request to drop her dual title and change her pay.
Although her proposed idea left her no vacation time, no overtime and no paid time off, it would allow her to make her own hours and have a salary of $50,900 a year instead of $43,484.
That amount is the same as the salary for Utility Clerk and Council Treasurer combined. She pointed out that this was “less money than the other department heads,” and that she holds a bachelor’s degree in business. She is currently working on her masters degree.
Council President Frank Kessler said he did not feel comfortable raising her pay when she had less than a year’s experience.
There was some confusion as to why Sade-Bartl sought to combine the title.
Sade-Bartl said, “I was worried about my job security in a moment when the board could fire me and I would have to sue to get my job back.”
The council chose not to amend the title.
