Donald W. “Duke” Martin, 78, of Big Lake, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and family Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
Born on May 10, 1934 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Donald Martin and Mildred (Hartman) Martin-Baker.
On June 4, 1955, he married Alice (Harrison) Martin at North Highlands Church of Christ, Fort Wayne.
He worked as a machinist for 40 years with Kunkle Valve in Fort Wayne, retiring in 1994.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and sports, especially his Chicago Cubs, Colts and Indiana basketball.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Alice Martin of Big Lake; sons, Chris (Anna) Martin and Andy (Anna) Martin both of Fort Wayne; daughter, Diana (Danny) Allen of Columbia City; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, William “Bill” (Janet) Martin of Big Lake; four half sisters, Carla, Sue, Wendy and Cindy. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor James Martin officiating. The burial will follow at Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
