Donald Dean Phend, 76, of Tippecanoe Lake, passed away at 7:45 p.m., Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, in his residence.
On March 21, 1936, he was born in Columbia City to Donald and Henrietta (Nelson) Phend. He married Shirley World on Aug. 31, 1956, in Forest Park, Ill.
Donald lived in Columbia City until he got married, then moved to Illinois, eventually moving back to the area 32 years ago.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1954-56 with the military police. He graduated with honors from Ivy Tech, Fort Wayne, receiving a degree in electronics.
Donald also worked in construction for many years.
He was a member of American Legion Post #253, North Webster and The Leathernecks Club, Columbia City.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Shirley Phend of Tippecanoe Lake; a daughter, Pamela (Dale) Jonas of Steger, Ill.; one brother, Richard (Marthene) Phend; three sisters, Pat (Dave) Katt, Judy Parkinson and Sally Black; three grandchildren, Amber (Adam), Emily (Dale) and Brandon; three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Zoey and Lilly. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jeffrey Phend.
Military honors will be given at 5 p.m., Sunday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, by the American Legion Post #253, North Webster. Burial will be at a later date.
Visitation hours will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Donald Dean Phend Funeral Fund, c/o Shirley Phend.
