Donald Afton York, 83, of Columbia City, passed away at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Born Oct. 16, 1929, in Puyallup, Wash., he was the son of Wilmer York and Betty (McGaughy) York.
He graduated from Nashua High School in Montana with the Class of 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the war, he moved to Columbia City to marry Marilee J. Heil April 5, 1953. He worked for Blue Bell for 26 years and retired from Essex Wire and Cable in 1992.
He also was a professional photographer, and he and his wife owned and operated York Photo. He was the official photographer for the Junior Miss. He was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church, Whitley County Korean War Veterans Group, American Legion, VFW and Jaycee.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 60 years; son, Warren York of Columbia City and sister-in-law, Willadene J. Holycross of Columbia City. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Warren.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. David Arnold officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery in Ft. Wayne.
