COLUMBIA CITY â Recently, Whitley Countyâs Shrine Club donated several hundred dollars to The Woodlands Senior Center, in Columbia City.
The Shriners are continuing to pitch in for the community, this time helping beautify the cityâs downtown area.
The club is donating two trees to be planted along West Van Buren Street, east of Line Street, on the south side of the road.
âWe just want to give back to the community,â said Ken Lundquist, Whitley Countyâs Shrine Club secretary-treasurer. âTheyâve supported us so well over the years.â
In a letter to the Board of Works, Lundquist said Old Settlers Daysâ elephant ear sales have been âvery goodâ to the Whitley County Shrine Club, so the group voted to show its appreciation to citizens by replacing the trees.
Lundquist is also the president of Columbia Cityâs Tree Board.
