Donations will help S-G students move forward

Good news for Smith-Green schools came with a visit from Jay Hilliard, Commander of the Gilbert-Davis American Legion Post 157 in Churubusco.
Hilliard presented a check for $250 directly to Smith-Green Community Schools. Dave Vaughn, member of the Executive Board at the Post, said, “To my knowledge, this is the first up-front donation directly to the schools.”
The funds are intended to help students who may not be able to afford backpacks and school supplies.
ProResources in Fort Wayne also contributed $4,500 which went toward the purchase of netbooks (low-cost, miniature laptops) for student use.
Nancy Becker, Special Education Director for SGCS, discussed the need for 25 netbooks plus “hotspots” around the buildings for wireless communication.
At $600 per unit, Pro Resources’ donation will help the school acquire the necessary computers to help students stay, or get back, on track for graduation.
