COLUMBIA CITY â€” Funding is in jeopardy for one of Whitley Countyâ€™s nonprofit organizations. Interfaith Mission, Inc., also known as The Lighthouse, provides transitional housing to those in need in Whitley County.
In 2013, the housing program served 63 individuals and provided housing, food, supplies, transportation and other supportive services. For the annual budget, 54 percent of The Lighthouseâ€™s funds come from grants â€” in addition to 16 percent which comes from local grants.
â€śI donâ€™t really know how we would function if we didnâ€™t have grant dollars,â€ť said Tania Keirn, executive director. â€śHowever, as we all know, federal dollars are never guaranteed. Who knows what the future holds for the grants we have been depending on for so long. Weâ€™ve already been told that one grant wonâ€™t be offered much longer.â€ť
