Dorothea Wilson, 87

Dorothea E. Wilson, 87, of Jefferson Township, died at 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2012, at Renaissance Village where she had been a resident since Jan. 2011.
She was born Oct. 28, 1924, in Washington Township, a daughter of Harry H. and Gertrude I. (Robinette) Taylor.
Her formative years were spent in Jefferson Township. She graduated from Jefferson Center High School.
On Dec. 9, 1945, she was united in marriage to Richard L. Wilson Sr. They made their home in Wyndott, Mich. until 1947, when they moved to Fort Wayne. In 1960, they moved to a farm in Jefferson Township. Mr. Wilson died Aug. 18, 2007.
During World War II, she worked at General Electric. Once her children completed their schooling, she was employed with NIPSCO, in Fort Wayne, for nine years.
She was a member of Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church, Jefferson Chapel M.Y.F., Splendid Splinters and Whitley County Art Guild. She was an avid fan of Tippecanoe Valley Vikings and Purdue Boilermakers, and had great respect for the coaches.
Surviving relatives include her children, Richard L. (Elizabeth) Wilson Jr., of Owensboro, Ky. and Ann E. (Richard) Smits, of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Harvey Taylor.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial was in Jefferson Chapel Cemetery. The visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
