COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City officials hope they have found the answer for parking in the downtown area — a topic that has created a stir by business owners, consumers and employees alike.
A new parking ordinance was passed at the Columbia City Common Council meeting Feb. 26.
The new ordinance, which unanimously passed by the council, now allows for parking in the North Chauncey Street Municipal Parking Lot near the post office. There will be two handicapped spots, three two-hour places and the remainder will have a 24-hour limit on the time a vehicle can remain in any one spot.
“It still allows our businesses to have turnover and gives our business owners a centralized location to park,” said Mayor Ryan Daniel.
While perhaps not everyone will be permanently pleased, it may be a step in the right direction.
“We’re playing the balancing act,” Daniel said.
