Drug charges filed in relation to infant death

COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed charges today in a case related to the death of a five-month-old girl Monday morning in Columbia City.Charges relating to the manufacture of methamphetamine were filed this morning against Travis A. Wonderly, 21 and Janel M. Creech, 36.Both suspects were charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, a Class B felony, maintaining a common nuisance, a Class D felony and possession of paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor.According to court documents, police say the lab was in operation from Dec. 26 until Monday.At press time, neither suspect has been arrested.Police and emergency medical crews were called to the Creech/Wonderly residence at 730 Camden Drive Monday morning.At the scene, five-month-old Taylor Lynn Creech was found unconscious and was rushed to Parkview Whitley Hospital where she was pronounced dead.No charges have been filed in the baby’s death, but as a result of the 911 call, police found evidence of a meth lab.The residence was condemned by Indiana State Police and the Whitley County Health Department.The death of Taylor Creech is still under investigation with a decision on whether or not to file charges in her death pending the results of toxicology tests from her autopsy, according to Whitley County Coroner Scott Smith.Smith said Thursday those test results could take weeks to come back.
