Duane A. Coe, 73

Duane A. Coe, 73, of Albion and formerly of Columbia City, died at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010 at Northridge Village Nursing and Rehab. He had been in failing health since January.

He was born Nov. 5, 1936 in Albion, a son of Orval and Mabel (Heltzel) Coe. He graduated from Albion Jefferson High School.

On May 23, 1955 he married Shirley A. Iden in Blue Ridge, Ga. They made their home in Kendallville, Columbia City and later Albion.

He was employed at Weatherhead for 18 years and retired in 1997 from Sea Nymph Boat Company in Syracuse with 15 years of service.
His church of membership was Tri-Lakes Baptist Church.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Shirley; eight children, Georgia A. (Denis) Mynhier of Ligonier, Ray J. (Maria) Coe of Columbia City, Tony E. (Beverly) Coe of South Whitley, Cindy D. Short of Fort Wayne, Tammy L. (Ricky) Jefferson of Larwill, Buddy D. (Misty) Coe of South Whitley, Sherry K. (Ted) Watson of Ligonier and Kelly S. (Melissa) Coe of South Whitley; 30 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Coe of Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Dean Coe; a daughter, Penny Marie Eppelmann; five grandchildren; and a brother, Russell Coe.

The funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Sparta Cemetery, Kimmell. The visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
