GOSHEN — Churubusco’s baseball and softball teams must have wondered where the sunshine and warm temperatures of last week went as they were greeted by frigid temperatures and gale force winds, as well as a Northeast Corner Conference foe when they traveled to Fairfield for a contests with the host Falcons.
For both ’Busco squads, errors proved to be costly as the Lady Eagles fell by a 7-0 score and the baseball team fell behind 12-1 after the first inning on the way to an 18-7 loss.
For the Lady Eagles, a set of costly errors put them in a hole in the bottom of the second inning.
Fairfield picked up a single run in the third, fourth and fifth innings to account for the final 7-0 score.
For the Eagle baseball team, a first inning with far too many walks and four errors put them in a hole that was just too deep to dig out of.
In the top of the first inning, the visiting Eagles took a 1-0 lead when Logan Harris scored on a long single by Brent Simmons. That early lead would be the only one the Eagles would have as Fairfield piled on 12 first-inning runs to put the Eagles in a deep hole.
Trailing 14-5, the Eagles used a Fairfield error to add their seventh run in the top of the fourth, but in the bottom half of the inning, a single, two wild pitches and a bases-loaded walk aided the Falcons as they plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the final 18-7 lead.
The Falcons retired Churubusco in order in the top of the fifth to take the win by the 10-run-rule.
Churubusco’s baseball team takes on Fremont at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne at approximately 7 p.m. Wednesday, while the Lady Eagles travel to Manchester, also on Wednesday.View more articles in:
