FORT WAYNE — Though Columbia City’s golf team didn’t win Tuesday night against undefeated Northeast Hoosier Conference foe Carroll, the Eagles posted their best score of the season. The Chargers won 151-166.
“It’s our best total of the year,” Columbia City Head Coach Andrew Thompson said. “It was a good night for us at Autumn Ridge. We had a good showing."
Columbia City’s players hadn’t played the course in their varsity careers, and Thompson was impressed with their performance.
Max Dryer and Dustin Parrett of Columbia City each shot 41s.
Drew Burnsworth and Trent Murphy weren’t far behind, just one stroke more with 42s.
Thompson said Burnsworth’s 42 was impressive after shooting a seven and an eight on two holes, making an average of four strokes on the remaining seven holes. Eagle Derek Philbee brought in the fifth score with a 43.
Alec Ramsey of Carroll was the medalist, shooting par. Three other Charger linksters scored below 40.
The Eagles are now 1-8 and 0-4 in the NHC.
“In the end it’s still a loss but it’s definitely a step in the right direction,” Thompson said.
