Eagles close out regular season with a victory

ALBION — Columbia City’s golf team ended its regular season with a 172-193 win over Central Noble Wednesday at Cobblestone Golf Course.

“I was really happy with the guys. I thought they did a good job,” Columbia City Head Coach Andrew Thompson said.

The Eagles are now 4-11 and have won their last two matches.

“We’ve had a struggling season,” Thompson said. “It’s good to win our last two going into sectionals.

“We’ll take the momentum and run with it tomorrow at Stonehenge.

Columbia City is expected to tee-off from 10:50 to 11:30 a.m.

Max Dryer was the match medalist with a 40.

“That was a good way for Max to close out the season,” Thompson said. “That was an outstanding effort on the road on a course he’s never played.”

Dryer was unable to play the previous two matches due to injury.

Seniors Dustin Parrett and Drew Burnsworth both shot 43s.

Fellow senior Tucker Daniel scored a 48 for the junior varsity team.

“I give kudos to Tucker for his work ethic this season,” Thompson said.

Drew Benedict scored a 46 in the varsity match and Trent Murphy rounded off varsity play with a 48.

Derek Philbee was the medalist in the junior varsity match.

The Eagles won 194-255 and finished their season with a 7-8 record.

Whitko is also competing in Friday morning’s sectional at Stonehenge.The Wildcats are scheduled to tee-off between 12 and 12:40 p.m.

Churubusco is in the East Noble sectional at Noble Hawk, which is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
