Eagles come in 6th at conference

KENDALLVILLE â€” At Saturdayâ€™s Northeast Hoosier Conference Tournament held at East Noble High School, a slow start by the Columbia City Eagles relegated them to a seventh-place finish.
Kyle Burns picked up the first win for the Eagles in the 138-pound weight class, downing Homesteadâ€™s Andy Papadakis to advance to the semifinals.
The other Eagle to pick up a win in the first round was junior Russell Hazelet in the 182-pound weight class. Hazelet, the third seed, picked up his first round win.
Burns led the Eagles with a second-place finish downing Dekalbâ€™s Anthony Adams in the second round before falling in the finals to number-one seed Reese Seiger of New Haven.
Columbia City picked up several third-place finishes including Hazelet at 182 pounds, senior Eric Shepherd at 160 pounds and fellow senior Joe Fahl in the 285-pound weight class.
The Eagles got fifth place finishes from senior Bryce Forrester at 116 pounds and sophomore Payton Walter in the 170-pound weight class.
Placing sixth for Columbia City were Damon Blackburn at 132 pounds, Alan Trabert in the 145-pound weight class, and Tristan Anglin at 220 pounds.
The Eagles will return to action Saturday, traveling to Carroll for the IHSAA Sectional competition.
