November 26, 2012

WARSAW — Columbia City boys basketball stand-out Drew Benedict scored 27 points for the second game in a row, leading the 2-0 Eagles to a 59-49 victory over Warsaw Saturday.

Columbia City had three players with double-digit scoring — Derek Hinen and Mason Coverstone assisted Benedict with a combined 27 points as well.
Hinen and Coverstone helped the Eagles jump out to a 5-0 lead — scoring on Columbia City’s first two possessions.

Another jump-shot by Coverstone, two 3-pointers by Benedict, six first-quarter points by Hinen and a buzzer-beater by Daniel Woll gave the Eagles a 19-12 advantage in the opening period.

Columbia City extended its lead to 30-19 in the second quarter, with two more 3s from Benedict, two lay-ups from Hinen and three points from Woll.
The Eagles went into the locker room at halftime with a 36-25 advantage.
Columbia City’s only third-quarter points came from 3-pointers, two more from Benedict and another from Coverstone.

Benedict scored his seventh and final 3-pointer with 4:57 left in the game.

The Eagles are back in action Friday night, hosting Northfield.
