COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City boys’ tennis team closed out an undefeated week by downing the Huntington North Vikings by a 5-0 score at the DeVol Field courts.
The Eagles claimed the match without a lost set against the Vikings.
In the varsity No. 1 singles match Dylan Hinen downed Huntington’s Phil Truit by a 6-1, 6-0 count. Travis Johnson kept Columbia City perfect by downing the Vikings’ Keith Stambaugh in the No. 2 singles contest, also by a 6-1, 6-0 score.
No. 3 singles player Derek Hinen notched a 6-1, 6-2 win over Huntington’s Ben North to remain undefeated on the season.
In the No. 1 doubles slot, the Columbia City team of seniors Alan Murphy and J.T. Biggs hung a 6-1, 6-0 straight set defeat on Vikings Luke Hoffman and Neal Hamilton, while the No. 2 doubles tandem of Cole Craven and Gabe Boles finished off the shut out win with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Huntington’s Stephen Reich and Jeremy Rice.
“We finished up a pretty good week, going 3-0,” said Columbia City head coach Doug Stoffel. “Hopefully we can build a little momentum going into the Norwell match next Thursday, as that will be a big test for us.”
The Columbia City junior varsity split with the Vikings with each squad picking up four wins.
Columbia City extends its winning streak to four matches after losing its season opener. The Eagles record now stands at 4-1 heading Thursday into the Norwell match.
