MONROE — You can put it in the win column.
A night after being down its top singles player, Columbia City boys’ tennis hit the road Thursday reloaded and in search of its first win of the regular season.
Splitting up four points evenly between singles and doubles, the Eagles returned to Columbia City with a 4-1 win over Adams Central.
Returning from an illness, No. 1 singles player Dylan Hinen struggled in his first outing of the season falling 0-6, 0-6 to Adams Central’s Nathan Barger.
The rest of the Eagles backed him up and swept the other four matches.
Sophomore Derek Hinen improved his season singles record to 2-0. Filling the No. 3 slot for City, Hinen beat Bently Burkhalter 6-3, 6-1.
Senior Travis Johnson picked up a two-set win as well in the No. 2 singles position. Johnson edged out Kam Fietcher in the first set, 7-6, and went on to win convincingly in the second set, 6-0.
Senior Alan Murphy teamed transfer J.T. Biggs in the No. 1 doubles match to pick up a quick win. The duo gave up only two points all night and defeated Jets Derek Roe and Ryan Colchin.
In his second full season at No. 2 doubles, Gabe Boles was joined by senior Cole Craven for a match against Jon Weil and Isaac Luginbill of Adams Central.
After taking a 6-1 set win in the first, Boles and Craven finished their match and won 6-3 in the second set.
Although the Eagles varsity team improved to 1-1 for the season, the junior varsity suffered its second loss of the season 6-3.
