Eagles JV beats Knights

COLUMBIA CITY — Eagle junior varsity wrestling got a taste of victory Wednesday, winning three of its four matches and defeating East Noble’s JV squad 15-6.Brice Bauer opened the meet at 145 pounds with a 9-3 win over his Knight opponent. Bauer was down 3-0 heading into the final period.Head Coach Blane Culp said the team preaches that it is a six-minute match and Bauer showed that by continuing to work.At 152 and having to mount several counters, Columbia City’s Hunter LaRue got a pinfall victory with time expiring in the first period.Riley Harter, wrestling in the 160-pound weight class, was pinned in the first minute of round one.In the closing match, Eagle Ben Cabiya, who trailed 5-0 early, needed just 58 seconds to pin East Noble’s Steven Stonebreaker, giving Columbia City the 15-6 victory.“They really impressed me out there,” said Culp. “You can’t be disappointed in our JV effort.”___For breaking news, sports updates and additional coverage, bookmark the homepage and find us on facebook.
