CHURUBUSCO — Homecoming on Friday the 13th could have been unlucky for Churubusco’s football team.
Bad luck appeared to have truly struck when Eastside took a 13-0 lead.
But the Eagles turned the number 13 on its head, scoring 31 unanswered points to take a 31-13 win and improving to 4-0 for the season, overall and in the conference.
Eastside (1-3, 0-3 in the NECC) took a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter, using an offense the Eagles did not expect.
“We prepared for what they did last year,” said Churubusco Head Football Coach Paul Sade. “They came out in a different look and it took us time to recover.”
Eastside used the Wildcat formation, as well as mixing in the spread and playing two quarterbacks to throw ’Busco off its game.
The Blazers used good field position to score the only touchdown of the first quarter, an 8-yard pass to P.J. Dean from Conner Dove.
A second-quarter touchdown run by Dean, with a failed conversion, made it 13-0 in favor of the visiting Blazers. But from there, it was all ’Busco.
