Eagles run strong into first meet
HUNTINGTON — Columbia City’s girls team, paced by a fifth-place performance by Samantha Roush, came in 10th overall at the Huntington Invitational Cross Country Meet Saturday.
There were 15 complete teams in the girls’ meet. Columbia City Cross Country Head Coach Bob Fahl said it was a great step for his squad.
“All of the girls improved their times from the non-scoring meet held last Tuesday at DeKalb,” he said.
Roush’s time was 19:27. Brooke Werstler came in 43rd at 22:06 for Columbia City. Samina Qureshi was 50th at 22:36, Shelby Allison was 64th in 23:02, Natalia Johnson was 66th at 23:19, Kristin Shively was 70th with a time of 23:25 and Erin Knepple had a mark of 23:39 to place 76th.
“They need to find a way to close the gap on Sam Roush,” Fahl said of the rest of the girls team.
Many of the 15 teams were from the area, and Fahl said it was a good assessment of where they stand.
