CHURUBUSCO â It was supposed to be a ârebuildâ for Churubusco boysâ track.
With the big names that led them for the past two seasons gone, the Eagles were supposed to have taken a step back.
Someone forgot to tell âBusco Head Coach Zack Dock and his five-time Churubusco boys track Invitational Champions Saturday.
Using their depth, the Eagles surpassed their own previous records on rout to a record 191-point day and a five-peat of their own invitational.
Getting two Eagles in every final was a point of focus for Dock and it showed with an 83-point gap between their first-place total and that of second-place Jimtown with 107.75 points.
In control of the meet from the outset, Churubusco also came away with the top individual scorer of the day in senior Alex Zolman.
Scoring wins in the 400-meter dash and long jump, Zolman also added a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash and was the anchor leg in the 1600-meter relay teamâs second-place finish.
Austin Boggess and Layne Fulk helped make up points lost in the hurdles with senior Josh LeFever out with an injury.
Other wins came from the following: Joel Fehring, 800-meter (2:06.78); Zacj Adams, pole vault (12-feet-6-inches); Austin McClure, shot put (49-2.25) and discus (142-6).
The Eagles also won two out of three relay events with wins in the 1600-meter and 3200-meter.
Long distance was another deep area for âBusco. Davon Geiger and Connor Hogeston switched off taking second- and third-place finishes in the dayâs longest events. Hogeston grabbed second ahead of Geiger in the 3200 while Geiger topped his fellow Eagle in the 1600 for second.
Churubusco hosts an invitational for the second consecutive weekend Saturday with 26 schools â including Columbia City, Churubusco and Whitko for the Turtletown Invitational.View more articles in:
