ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Potential new jobs for South Whitley

June 27, 2013

SOUTH WHITLEY — Approximately 35 new jobs could be coming to South Whitley.

At Tuesday’s Town Council meeting, Alan Tio, Whitley County Economic Development Corporation president, asked town leaders for the OK to proceed with a grant application that would allow for a new business to move into South Whitley.

“We are still a long way off from knowing for sure if this is going to go through,” Tio said. “But this gets the ball rolling for us.”

The town will be applying for a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant that would allow the town to purchase a piece of real estate.

“The best way to describe it is as a pass-through opportunity,” said Tio.
