COLUMBIA CITY — Looking back at the milestones for Whitley County’s growth, numbers and dollars aren’t what economic development leaders are using to measure success.
Alan Tio, Whitley County Economic Development Corporation president and CEO, said he views the year’s successes based on relationships.
“I am proud to say that we worked with 50 different companies last year,” said Tio. “To me, that’s what makes what we do rewarding.”
A variety of incentives and assistance were offered to companies working to expand or relocate.
“I think it says a lot about what we do when we can look back and see we have worked with all kinds of companies,” Tio said. “From small businesses to large corporations, we have worked closely with these companies to sustain their growth. The relationships that form help solidify that business rooted in Whitley County.”
In the earlier part of 2013, Tio said the county had more than 800,000 square feet of real estate to offer. After working to bring in new business and assist in business expansions, that square footage is down to almost 200,000.
