SOUTH WHITLEY — A joint effort by the South Whitley Town Council and Whitley County Econonic Development Corporation is expected to bring 35 new jobs to the town.
Town Council President Tony Starkey offered details about South Whitley’s plan to acquire the former Dwyer building by way of a zero-interest government loan.
“The EDC has been working with us since last year to make this deal possible,” said Starkey. “We are lucky to have those at the EDC come up with ways to attract new business to our area.”
A company, which has not be disclosed, had been considering a move to South Whitley. The former Dwyer building, situated on First Street, was the location of choice.
However, according to Starkey, the company was unable to pull together all the necessary funds to purchase the building. Rather than deter the company from making its move, the town offered to buy the building and lease it to the company.
