Edward Arnold Hammons, 58, of Columbia City, passed away at 7:47 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne. Born Dec. 14, 1952 in Ossian, he was a son of Harold L. and Betty Jane (Spitler) Hammons.
A former resident of Fort Wayne where he graduated from North Side High School, he moved to Columbia City in 1972. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On June 11, 1975 he married Cheryl Ann Brandom in Whitley County. He worked at Briggs Fertilizer Plant in the maintenance department.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Cheryl A. Hammons of Columbia City; children, Dorinda Born of Fort Wayne, Trenton (Carmen) Hammons, Carrie Hammons and Sheila Hammons, all of Columbia City; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson; brothers, Harold â€śLarryâ€ť (Judy), John and Matthew Hammons, all of Fort Wayne, Dane and Tim (Marcie) Hammons, both of Columbia City; sister, Judy (Dave) Coe of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, David and Mark Hammons, sisters, Karen Holle and Betty â€śCookie.â€ť
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
