EEL RIVER TRAIL: Group donates land for trail

October 11, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — A group of people donated a parcel of land for the expansion of a trail in Columbia City.

The Friends of the Eel River Trail met Aug. 7 and unanimously voted to gift a parcel of land to the city to help with the expansion of the Eel River Trail.

When completed, the trail will span from South Whitley to Churubusco, passing through Columbia City.

The parcel is west of Line Street and north of Vine Street in Columbia City.

Columbia City Mayor Ryan Daniel said the city appreciates the donation.

“We thank the Friends of the Eel River Trail for that generous gift,” Daniel said. “They’ve been working very hard to extend the trail to that part of the city.”

Daniel said the next phase of the trail will span from the current path to DeVol Field.
