Elaine M. Hesting, 72, of Columbia City passed away at 6 a.m. Tuesday May 6, 2014 at her home. Elaine was born Jan. 24, 1942, in Winston, Conn. She was the daughter of Claude Brot and Alice (LaFountain) Harrington, Sr.
She graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School, Lafayette, with the Class of 1960. She married Marvin R. Hesting June 18, 1960. They made their home in rural Whitley County for the last 53 years.
She was a teacherâ€™s assistant with Whitley County Consolidated Schools, retiring in 1999. She was a member of St. Catherineâ€™s Catholic Church and the Rosary Sodality. She also was a former member of the Home Demonstration Club.
Elaine enjoyed tending to her flowers and garden, decorating cakes and doing crafts. Most of all, she loved being with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Marvin Hesting; daughters, Vonda (Jeffrey) Cormany of Columbia City, Lisa (Edwin) Raby of Salcha Alaska, Lora (Curt) McClead of Cary, N.C., Leah (Scott) Myer of Columbia City and Alanna (Rick) Stetzel of Roanoke; sons, Jared (Danelle) Hesting and Jason (Stacey) Hesting, both of Columbia City; sister, Effie Roberts of Salem, Ill.; brother, Claude â€śChuckâ€ť Brot (Dana) Harrington, Jr. of Lafayette; 25 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Drew David Stetzel.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 4 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, located at 600 Countryside Dr. in Columbia City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Catherineâ€™s Catholic Church, 9989 S. Ind. 9 in Columbia City with Father Dale Bauman officiating.
