Elizabeth Carolyn Shelmadine, 77, a resident of Churubusco and widow of Max R. Shelmadine, passed away at 10:05 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
She had been in failing health for the past three years and had been more seriously ill since January.
Mrs. Shelmadine was born in Churubusco Oct. 29, 1936, a daughter of Marvin and Florence (Deck) Rollins.
She spent her formative years in Churubusco and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1954.
On June 13, 1958, she was married in Columbia City to Max R. Shelmadine. The couple lived in Columbia City for a short period, but spent most of their married lives in Churubusco.
She retired as a packer at Dana Corporation in Churubusco after 30 years.
A member of the Churubusco Veteranâ€™s of Foreign Wars Turtle Post 3846 Ladies Auxiliary, she enjoyed playing bingo, tip boards, and most especially loved and cherished her family.
Mr. Shelmadine preceded her in death Feb. 10, 2005.
The surviving relatives include her three sons, Max (Glory) Shelmadine, Jr. of Churubusco, Michael (Pam) Shelmadine of Fort Wayne, and William (Carrie) Shelmadine of Columbia City; three brothers, Clyde Rollins and Charles Rollins, both of Churubusco, and Eddie Rollins of Bluffton; her sister, Patricia Perkins of Bluffton; 14 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Alfred L. Rollins, Ross E. Rollins, Clayton Rollins, and Robert Rollins; two sisters, Phyllis Born and Letha Born; and by a grandson, Jeffery Shelmadine.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco, with Rev. Rick Van Horn, pastor of Christ Community Church, officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m.
Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
