Elkhart M. deals ’Cats lopsided loss

November 22, 2010

ELKHART — It’s been a roller coaster start to the season for Whitko girls’ basketball just four games into schedule.
Two wins under their belt, the Lady Wildcats have had tough competition follow up each win.
After a home opening win, Whitko fell to Columbia City. Following a county victory over Churubusco last week, a long road trip to Elkhart Memorial finished with a lopsided loss to the Lady Chargers 79-33.
The Lady ’Cats were held to single digit scoring in three of the four quarters they played including a three-point first quarter.
Elkhart Memorial wasted no time jumping out to a big lead with 53 points scored in the first two periods.
By halftime, the Chargers led 53-18.
Shooting guard Karissa Olinske was the only Wildcat to reach double digits with 13 points. All of her points  came in a 15-point second quarter for Whitko.
Elkhart held the ’Cats to just two field goals in the second half while putting five different Lady Chargers in double figures.
The perimeter belonged to Elkhart as well hitting nine three-pointers.
Other Whitko scorers were: Rachelle Kessie 8, Nicole Slaymaker 5, Micaela Slyvester 4, Josie Sparks 2, Katee Reiff 1.
