Current AD Lee Etzler announced he will step down from the position effective at the end of the current school year.
Etzler notes time with his family was the driving force behind his decision.
“I am stepping down as athletic director in an attempt to spend more time with my family,” Etzler said Friday. “With my kids getting older (Lauren 9 and Brandon 7), they are starting to get involved in more activities. It has gotten increasingly frustrating for me to miss a lot of what they have going on.
“When I took the job four years ago I didn’t really envision staying in the position forever. I feel like the time is right for me to step down.”
Etzler took the position in September of 2007 and will return to being either a math or science teacher at the high school.
According to Etzler, the Eagles head football coach will come back for his 10th season with the program.
Etzler has led Churubusco to two sectional and North East Corner Conference Championships. His career record of 64-37 is atop the all-time leaders for coaches at Churubusco.
Churubusco comes off a class A semistate appearance where it set a school record for wins finishing the season 12-2.
Currently, no candidates have been announced to potentially fill the position.
