COLUMBIA CITY — An historic honor was bestowed Thursday night.
For the first time in the history of Leadership Whitley County, a member of the graduating class received the award for Excellence in Servant Leadership. Columbia City Police Chief Tim Longenbaugh was nominated by one of his classmates for this honor, and was given it at the Leadership Whitley County Celebration for the Class of 2012-13.
Longenbaugh was lauded for his work in law enforcement, as well as dedication to his church and family and willingness to listen to anybody. Upon receiving the honor, the chief said he was “humbled.”
Thursday’s ceremony honored the graduating class of 2013 for Leadership Whitley County. In total, 21 individuals were celebrated in this year’s class.
John Sampson, president/CEO of Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership, was the featured speaker. He encouraged those in attendance with examples from servant leadership in his own life.
