COLUMBIA CITY — BRC Rubber and Plastics, a company based in Churubusco which makes molded components for the automotive industry, is expanding, creating around 51 new jobs.
Thomas Maher, Human Resources at Churubusco’s BRC Rubber and Plastics, said BRC will consolidate work in northeast Indiana, mainly in Blackford County.
“The bulk of the jobs are going into two plants in Blackford County,” said Maher. “Those plants had the greatest room for expansion.”
The expansion will include Hartford City and Montpelier, with the bulk of the work, and Ligonier with some new jobs as well.
Maher said the expansion is due to BRC’s financial security and search for an acquisition of another rubber company known as Quebec-based Veyance Technologies Canada Inc.
“The rubber company in Canada was looking to get out of the rubber business, and we were looking for a buyer,” said Maher. “It was something that was a nice fit with our type of business and our type of manufacturing.”
BRC also operates facilities in Bluffton, where the company originated and Auburn Hills, Mich.
With the expansion, Maher said there will be about 51 jobs for injection press operators as well as finishers, inspectors, support jobs, utilities, shipping and maintenance.
BRC Rubber and Plastics in Churubusco is located at 589 South Main Street.
