COLUMBIA CITY — Though the city will be putting on a display at Morsches Park for the Fall Festival, consumer, or personal fireworks will not be allowed.
Columbia City’s ordinance includes specific dates that residents can shoot off fireworks, and Columbia City Fire Chief Tom LaRue discussed the option of an amendment for the Fall Festival with the Board of Works last Tuesday.
“Let them come to the festival and enjoy them there — not at home,” said Walt Crowder, of the Board of Works.
The two other Board of Works members, Dan Weigold and Mayor Ryan Daniel agreed.
Columbia City Police Chief Tim Longenbaugh said the decision will help his department as well.
“We normally get a lot of complaints from other citizens when fireworks start flying around town,” Longenbaugh said.
“There are a lot more days that people can shoot them off than just the Fourth of July,” Daniel said.
