WHITLEY COUNTY â Farmers in Whitley County are nearing the end of fall harvest season despite the recent rain.
âWe are slightly ahead of normal on corn and a few days ahead on soybeans, but not on record pace with either one,â said Dave Addison, with the Whitley County 4-H Youth Development and Agriculture and Natural Resources.
âMost of the farmers have been diligently working on harvesting corn and planting wheat for next year.â
Addison estimated Whitley County farmers have completed approximately 70 percent of soybeans and 40 percent of the corn harvest.
âWe would like to have everything wrapped up by Thanks-giving, and at that time, there will probably be a field or two that doesnât get done, but most of the work will be completed,â said Addison.
Addison said the recent rains over the past few months have greatly contributed to moist soil, making the conditions ideal for winter wheat planting.
