COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County’s Farmers Market opened its season Saturday to brisk temperatures and overcast skies.
Last year, the market opened a week earlier and experienced colder-than-normal temperatures. Pushing the start of the market back a week, Market Master Chris Lilly hoped the weather would cooperate.
Lilly said that although the temperatures weren’t ideal, the first Saturday of market season was a success.
“I was very pleased with both the vendor turn out as well as the steady stream of market goers,” Lilly said. “I think it is a great indication of how well our community supports the Farmers Market. I am looking forward to the growing awareness of the value in buying quality local products.”
Vendors lined the Whitley County Courthouse to sell a variety of locally-grown and homemade items. Special vendors and featured guests were part of opening day, including Whitley County’s Master Gardeners.
