CHURUBUSCO â€” Officials from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources are saying alcohol maybe have been a factor in an all-terrain vehicle accident Thursday night which killed a Fort Wayne woman and critically injured a Fort Wayne man, according to area news reports.
Killed in the accident was Jodie Deck, 38. Caleb Ball, 37 was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital and was listed in critical condition.
A report from the DNR said a call to 911 dispatchers came around 9:30 p.m. from a motorist who reported the accident, which was later determined to be located inside the Whitley County line southwest of Churubusco.
Investigators report the ATV was northbound on Johnson Road when it left the roadway on the left side near a curve and later flipped, throwing both occupants to the ground.
The accident occurred near Johnson and Chapine roads.
Deck was pronounced dead at the scene by Whitley County Coroner Scott Smith.
Deckâ€™s body will undergo an autopsy in Fort Wayne some time today to determine the cause of death.
DNR investigators said it appeared alcohol was a factor. The accident is still under investigation.
