SOUTH WHITLEY — Thousands of people from the South Whitley community and throughout the tri-county region converged on the farm of Roy and Mary Rubrake for the 7th Annual South Whitley Plow Day Saturday.
Antique tractors, horse-drawn plows and contemporary machines all worked together to plow acres of farm land while other activities were offered at CR 350 West in South Whitley.
“This is a fun day,” Mary said. “We are blessed to be able to have this here. It’s a perfect day for it.”
Besides soil being overturned, games for children, craft demonstrations and pony pulls entertained crowds.
“We estimate about 2,000 or more will make it out today,” said Mary. “This gets bigger and better every year.”
But the event is not just for fun, it serves a philanthropic purpose as well. Money raised from the event will be donated to the South Whitley Emergency Food Bank as well as to other families in the community that need help.
