COLUMBIA CITY — Throughout the past decade, Columbia City High School FFA and 4-H livestock judging has slowly been building a nationally competitive program.
This program offers the community an avenue for their youth to expand themselves through evaluating livestock.
“We are very blessed in Columbia City to have great kids and all the ingredients it takes to make this a possibility,” said coach Greg Rupert. “With a strong and supportive FFA chapter, committed volunteers, and a supportive school system and community, the stage has been set for a great opportunity for youth in the area.”
For the past seven years, Columbia City students have received judging scholarships, setting the stage for higher expectations in the future.
In the last 10 years, Columbia City has posted four state-champion teams, along with four first-place individuals and five high school All-Americans.
They have represented Indiana at national contests in Kansas City, Mo., Louisville, Ky., Raleigh, N.C. and Denver. On these journeys, they have made life-long memories and developed lasting relationships across the livestock world.
