FFA: Livestock judging team top in nation

COLUMBIA CITY — While Whitley County has produced some outstanding athletes, artists, doctors and more, not many can say they are the best in the United States — except for Columbia City High School FFA’s livestock judging team.

The squad participated in the national contest in Denver in January, taking home first place and No. 1 in the nation.
Team members Jared Lamle, Ryan Clingerman, Brook Pettigrew, Jake Pettigrew and Drew Lamle, are now qualified to compete in an international contest in Scotland.

In light of National FFA Week this week, Brook Pettigrew reflected on the team’s success, and the steps it took to be the best.
“I think one of the keys to our success has been the support of alumni judgers,” said Pettigrew. “Any success of the team has been the success of those around us.
