CHURUBUSCO — While Smith Township’s Fire Department fights fires of all kinds — car, home, barn and field — the department faced a blaze of a different kind Thursday afternoon.

The firemen were called to the home of their assistant chief, Kris Bair, at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday, to find smoke coming from the roof of the residence.

Bair’s home, located on the 8000 block of East U.S. 33, north of Churubusco, had a quick response from four fire departments, Smith Township, Thorncreek Township, LaOtto and Huntertown.
