COLUMBIA CITY — In the last five seasons that Columbia City Head Volleyball Coach Trish Hinen has been in charge of the team, the Lady Eagles have fallen to Warsaw.

Tuesday night, Columbia City broke the spell, and the Lady Eagles downed the Lady Tigers in three close games, as the score was tied 24 times in the second and third sets.

“Warsaw is always a really, really good ball club,” Hinen said. “We’ve won games against them before, but never a match. To win in three games is a big deal.”

Columbia City’s squad has had a stand-out season, with only one loss (Concordia) all year.

The Lady Eagles dropped Warsaw 25-21 in game one, 26-24 in the second game and 24-21 in game three — a competitive match.

Hinen said the girls prepared for Warsaw the same as they’ve prepped for other teams all season.

“We didn’t talk about last year or our history against Warsaw,” Hinen said. “We honestly didn’t know anything about them, except that they’re a good team to prepare us for conference play. Tonight was a good indication that the things we’re working on are coming together.”
