FIT looking for fire's cause

LAUD — Fire investigators were on the scene this morning of a house fire that destroyed a two-story home in southern Whitley County.
According to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, a call came in at 7:36 p.m. Sunday night reporting a fire at the residence owned by Leland P. Harrington, 1696 East County Road 800 South.
Washington Township firefighters were dispatched. According to Washington Township Fire Chief Jeremy Hammel, the house was a total loss.
Hammel said the Whitley County Fire Investigation Team was dispatched this morning to investigate the cause of the fire.
He said that in addition to his department, firefighters from Jefferson, Columbia and Union townships were also dispatched and assisted with fighting the blaze.
