FORT WAYNE — There is no question the Northeast Hoosier Conference has been one of the best in Indiana high school wrestling for several years.
Whether its Bellmont, Carroll or Columbia City, the NHC has always had state caliber wrestling.
Youth and inexperience has some powerhouses rebuilding for the future while others are primed for more postseason glory.
Saturday, four of those teams met at Homestead High School for a quad meet that had both the conference’s best and the young and upcoming wrestlers competing.
While the Chargers controlled the day going 3-0 as a team, Columbia City was on the other end at 0-3  building up a team made up of mostly underclassmen.
Losses — Homestead 58-13, New Haven 49-28 and Carroll 71-0 — didn’t come without some positive wrestling on the day.
Two Eagles opened the day 2-0 in Columbia City’s first two matches.
After winning a close 5-3 overtime match over Homestead’s Landen Hughes, Eagle 171-pounder Russell Hazelet picked up a win against New Haven’s Matt Robinson 13-5.
Junior Bryce Forrester mirrored Hazelet’s performance with back-to-back wins at 112 pounds.
Forrester finished the match against Homestead with a tech-fall 12-0 win over Spartan Brett Luithly. David   Lawhorne of New Haven was not so lucky against Forrester with a pinfall loss in the first period.
Joseph Fahl highlighted some of Columbia City’s other wins with a pinfall win over Homestead heavyweight Zach Swarts in the second period.
Three other Eagles picked up wins against New Haven. Those winners were: Nathan Strange, Alan Trabert, Trey Hinen.
