Fred L. Nix, age 60, of Columbia City, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.
Born Aug. 25, 1951 in Quebec City, Canada, he was the son of Alfred J. and Marion E. (Trumbower) Nix.
He grew up in Columbia Township and in 1993 moved to his current residence.
He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1969 and worked at Weatherhead/Dana, Columbia City with 28 years of service. He was a member of St. Catherines Catholic Church and was an avid nature and dog lover.
Survivors include his mother, Marion E. Nix, of Fort Worth, Texas; sister Lou Ann (Charles) Falkenstein, of Colleyville, Texas; niece Ann Marie (Tyler) Hastings and grandnephew Luke Hastings, both of Flower Mound, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred J. Nix.
Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. with a Catholic prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Chruch with Father Larry Kramer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Nix Settlement.
